Consuming a diet that is healthy and nutritious provides a number of benefits to your body and health. Eating foods that are healthy will also provide increased energy that will last all day long. At Metropolitan Food Service, our mission is “to inspire and fuel the minds of our customers with fresh, nutritious creative meals with a focus on convenience and affordability.”  We are committed to offering our students, faculty and staff delicious, healthful choices. The Healthfully Yours program features healthy and delicious on-trend menu innovations that are lower in fat, sugar, cholesterol, and sodium and high in protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. In addition the Healthfully Yours program features on-campus nutrition marketing promotions and nutrition information and education promoting an active healthy lifestyle.

Breakfast Made to Order  

Eating a smart breakfast can prevent a drop in blood sugar that makes you crave sugar later in the morning and can improve your health. Research suggests that breakfast is associated with increased physical and mental performance at school or work.      

  • Power-Up Oat Parfaits - Raw whole-grain fiber and protein rich oats that are soaked overnight served with your choice of healthy toppings.     
  • Acai Bowls – Featuring the acai berry superfood from Brazil that has both health benefits and delicious taste. The Acai bowl is a mixture of acai puree, fresh berries topped with oatmeal and your choice of additional healthy toppings.

The sandwich station will offer:

  • Low fat protein – Sliced chicken, low-sodium turkey breast, healthy chicken salad, tuna salad, low fat cheese
  • Spreads – Hummus, guacamole
  • Condiments - Low-fat mayo, mustard 
  • Topped with fresh kale, Spinach, tomato and sprouts

The “Healthfully Yours MyPlate Rule” – Recommend by the USDA for a healthy diet 

In order to reach the protein and carbohydrate needs, follow the “Healthfully Yours MyPlate Rule.” Fill half of your plate with vegetables and/or fruit, then fill the remainder with roughly equal amounts of whole-grain starch and a high protein food.  

Metropolitan Food Service will supply our customers with access to the valuable resources found on the ChooseMyPlate.gov website.   

Choice of Lean Protein, Vegetables, and Whole Grain Use “MyPlate Rule” as a healthy guide.
